No Ice Cream Maker? No Problem

In a recent food.com article, author “Budget Bytes” gives the reader a brief rundown on how to make ice cream without an ice cream maker. This simple tutorial gives you some basics to get started, but omits a few key pieces to the puzzle.

The article begins by briefly describing what makes good ice cream (tiny ice crystals versus big ones) and how to do it. The process begins with building a base, which the author partially explains, but, for some reason, does not provide a recipe. As it turns out, the article links to a recipe written by another user at the very end. The target audience seems to be people who do not generally make ice cream, so it’s a little confusing as to why the author would not give a full rundown on how to make the base.

The rest of the article gives a step-by-step on what to do after making the base and why. Next, you chill it in a container with a large surface area before freezing. After that, you throw it in the freezer and let it solidify slightly before pulling it out, mixing and repeating the process. Alternating between mixing and freezing breaks up larger ice crystals that might be forming to create a smooth ice cream texture.

The article delivers a smart, concise guide to making ice cream without a maker though, it would be more helpful with a recipe for ice cream base within the body.

Vegan Changes

We all make different choices in life. Some of the biggest discrepencies we see are in what people choose to eat, and what people choose not to eat. Often times you’ll see people who have chosen a vegetarian life, or even a vegan life! It requires a commitment. One that has people all over the world making changes in their diet, and really having to work harder to find food to eat. Everything has to be changed for them in order to keep it vegan. Sometimes, they can’t enjoy what everyone else doesn.

Well according to Eater, Ben and Jerry’s is changing that. They are now coming out with a vegan ice cream. The vegan ice cream will contain either an almond milk base or a coconut one. The company is hard at work, and they are hoping to have the product soon!

Customers asked for it.  According to Google Play, it seems that the inspiration and push behind this new ice cream was a petition asking for an option that didn’t have dairy in it. This is also great news for all those lactose people out there! It’s not sure what the flavor will be yet, but people still have to wait a while longer. The product wont be debuting till next spring. Then it will be interesting to see if other companies craft a vegan free ice cream for their customers.

Yet Another Ice Cream Company Is Forced To Recall All Of Their Products

Beware of ice cream and other frozen desserts, yet another ice cream brand has been forced to recall of their products due to listeria being present in a random sample.

Blue Bell has been in the news as of late for a few recalls that finally led to a total recall of all of their products after listeria showed up at even more of their factories. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is the latest brand to face this sort of huge recall, including their physical ice cream shops.

The gourmet frozen dessert company failed a sampling in Nebraska which led to the recall. There have been no reported illnesses related toJeni’s products as of right now, thank goodness. These random samplings have taken down two companies in such a short time that it makes one wonder how stringent the production standards are for frozen treats.

There need to be more factory tours and stricker guidelines on the production of these products before an epidemic is started. Flávio Pentagna Guimarães BMG is very concerned, and hopes that people are conscious consumers.
