OSI Group is an American owned company that services the retail and food industries, headquartered in Aurora, Illinois. They provide their products to many food service and retail companies around the world. OSI has also supplied companies such as Starbucks, Papa John’s Pizza, Pizza Hut and Subway.
OSI Group was originally founded in 1909 by Otto Kolschowsky as a family meat market. He expanded the business in 1917 into a wholesale meat trade. His business was called Otto & Sons. The company quickly established themselves as a local household name.
Before its fame, McDonald’s, in 1955 opened its first doors in Illinois and chose Otto & Sons as the supplier for their beef patties. Founders of both companies created a strong relationship between their two companies and McDonald’s quickly became Otto & Sons main business.
In 1973, Otto & Sons opened a new high-volume plant with a separate unit, named Glenmark. Glenmark was the location where they handled all of their non-McDonald’s business. In 1975, Otto & Sons became OSI Industries and was an exclusive supplier to McDonald’s, which helped them grow in their wealth and expansion.
In 1999, OSI signed an agreement for the license of Glenmark to Best Chicago Meat Co., LLC and in 2011, Glenmark was entirely acquired by them. Also in 2011, OSI was listed on the Forbes list of Largest Private Companies, with annual revenue of $3 billion.
OSI Group provides clients with products such as breakfast meats, processed meats, beef and chicken, pizza and dough, and kettle and smoked products. The company is creative and experienced enough to develop almost any kind of product for any client.
